Floyd Mayweather Jr. will be fighting Victor Ortiz on the 17th of September 2011 in the MGM Grand in Las Vegas for the WBC Welterweight Championship.
Boxing is a sport that can have serious consequences on health, which is hardly surprising considering that boxers receive many punches to the body as well as blows to the head during their boxing career, as well as the fact that any top sport generally is not good for the body – excess is always bad. Floyd Mayweather’s health seems to be very reasonable still, with the exception of both his hands, which have sustained multiple injuries.
The main issues around Floyd Mayweather, however, seem to be surrounding his mental health. He has had several issues around domestic violence, and he was recently arrested for beating up the mother of his three children, Josie Harris, for being in a new relationship with athlete CJ Watson. Clearly, when a boxing champion like Floyd Mayweather uses their considerable strength on a woman, some serious damage can be done, and it also points to some very serious anger issues in Mayweather. Some speculate that boxers are more likely to struggle with controlling anger, as they will need to be build on this emotions during boxing matches. This coupled with potentially having some brain damage means they are no longer able to control some very powerful emotions.
Floyd Mayweather’s other mental issues relate more to him seeing himself as the next Mohammed Ali, by calling himself the best athlete that has ever walked the earth and even saying that he is passed the point of super star or even mega star and that a new word for his stardom is yet to be invented.
Floyd Mayweather’s overall health still seems to be in reasonable condition. However, his general attitude and overall aggression could point to the beginning of brain damage caused by his boxing career. Log-in for Mayweather vs Ortiz live and see if Mayweather can clear one more fight without adding to many injuries.
